Siamese Fighting Fish is he supposed to bite the tail of the female2007-11-24 23:39:58Answers:
No he is not supposed to but they also aren't supposed to be together either, unless you are breeding them. And if you are breeding them then I would hope you did a bunch of research and you should know the answer to that.
Put 2 together and they fight till one is dead.
Only one can live successfully in the tank.
Just read the name of fish - fighting fish - that should give you a hint
Chances are your female is actually another male. Siamese/Chinese fighting fish are also known as Beta/Bettas. And in North American they generally only sell males.
Yes that is why you call them fighting fish. You dont ever put them in with another fish even one of there own kind or the will kill it. I know I have had several in my life.I even have one right now in a tank all his own.
well i dont think that he should be biting her tial to hurt her maybe some sort of mating thing but im not sure how do u know its female ? a male comes in vibrant colors like blue purple and red females are very boring colors like gray or grayish red mostly gray or brown very light colors is a female
There's a reason that they're called Siamese FIGHTING fish. They fight. Any two in the same area, male or female will begin to fight the other, they just don't get along. So this behavior is perfectly normal, but you really shouldn't keep them in the same area unless you want dead/injured fish on your hands.
sometimes that is because he wants to mate and gets her atention
Siamese Fighting Fish (also known as bettas) are very territorial. Yes, it is possible for a male to not only bite the tail of a female, but if you leave them together for too long, he will kill her. If you wish to breed them, they will need a divider with holes so that he may become accustomed to her scent. This can take a very long time and even then it may not prove successful. After a successful mating, the female lays the eggs and is promptly chased away. The male fertilizes the eggs and guards them until they hatch. When the eggs hatch, the male will eat the young if he is present. This is a difficult species of fish to breed, I would recommend guppies if you are trying to breed fish.
