My betta, Sigma, might be sick. The tips of his fins, instead of being flared out, are clumped; that is, the tips of his fins are stuck together, almost forming a point, while the innermost fins are spread out. There are no spots on his body and he's exhibiting no other signs of illness (he's pretty active and he flares up when provoked). I just want to know if anyone has any idea what might be wrong with him.

I assume that since you named your betta Sigma you think it is pronounced bay-tah. Betta is pronounced bet-tah, not bay-tah. Beta (pronounced bay-tah) is the second letter of the Greek alphabet.

No, he is not sick, he is slowly dying from not being kept in warm water. Bettas are tropical fish from southeast Asia and need water in the range of 74-80 degrees to keep them healthy.

Bettas can live up to 5 years if cared for properly. They usually last up to a year in the small bowls that most inexperienced people keep them in.

Aww, he's cute. I don't know if anything is wrong with him, but my sons' fish is doing that too. He's red and named Porkchop, and he tried to commit suicide today. Tried to swim down the drain when I was getting him out to change his water.

I have 9 Betta, they all have fins like yours.Sigma looks health.if there are no white or dark spots or white cotton-like material on his fins, he is swimming normally and eating well, he should be fine.then he does not have fungi or bacterial infection.I think he looks normal.

The fish is not sick. A Betta will only flare their fins, or make them look wider when they are ready to fight. If you wont your fish to flare up, just up a mirror in front of the fish bowl, when he sees himself he will think it is another fish and he will get ready to fight. If he does not then he is a very calm Betta, and would lose if he was in a fight, but your fish is fine.
