Spawning Bettas

Spawning Bettas2007-11-24 23:40:17

Found a website that said to add salt to an aquarium when spawning bettas to keep velvet out.can I use icecream rock salt? I have eggs.will it be safe to add salt now? If it is ok to add salt, I was going to disolve it in treated water in a seperate container and add it to the aquarium.

Answers:

Salt is general recommended. Everyone has their own opinion on the sort to use. I tend to use kosher salt as it lack anti-caking agents, and table for treating sick fish. (As a biologist I'm fully convinced iodine is good for fish.) Rock salt should be fine if it's intended for human consumption. Salt should be dissolved in water before being added, as dissolving salt can burn fish. Also fish like to eat it.

PS- You've got food ready for the fry?!!? These guy aren't guppy or molly. They are so small you barely be able to see them. You need a really small food like micro worms.

no, that will hurt the fish, also when the fish is born it is SOOO important to separate them because they will eat each other, i know because i have had this happen, u need to separate the male and female
