Spots on a beta2007-11-24 23:40:18

I have two male betas (In seperate tanks). They are in identical tanks with identical fake plants save for the colors. They have a light and a below-gravel air pump in each tank, yet one has these really strange white balls forming all over him. They don't seem to be bothering him, but they worry me. I put Jungle's Start Right with Allantoin in both of their tanks. In fact, the only difference between them is that one can eat pellets and the other can't. So I feed one Wardley's Essentials: Betta Premium Food (Pellets) and Tetra's BettaMin Tropical Medley (Flakes). What on Earth could be causing him to get those white balls? If it's something serious I want to take care of it as soon as possible because lets face it, I'm rather attached. They are really tiny and at first I thought they were just air bubbles, but they keep forming and don't move. Any suggestions?

This definitely sounds like Ick.. just FYI.. every tank has Ick in it.. but stress will cause it to affect the fish.. a sudden change in water temp.. adding new fish.. moving the fish.. change in food sometimes even does it.. but the ick medicine will do the trick when done correctly.. Each time you are going to add the medicine.. change out about a 1/3 of the water first.. then add the meds.. depending upon the type meds you use, it can take one dose.. or a few more.. Mine took three days the last time.

another note.. I have so many fish in my 55 gallon tank, that I have a separate 10-gallon tank for the 'sick' fish.. I still treat the main tank, too.. Once the fish are back to normal, I add them back to the main tank.. I have had to treat my tank once about a year ago.. and never since. Good luck.

Your betta has ick.You need to warm up his water and add 1 drop pre gall. to his water. Buy some ick out and read the back of the bottle for more input.

ICK. it is semi-seriuos. go to wherever u got those tablets and get the ones that say ick, do it asap

that is certainly ick, it's a type of fungus and it can be serious

buy some ick cure and apply it to the water as the label indicates until it's gone
