It cleans off easily enough, but is comes back over time. Is this some sort of residue from water evaporation or is it something else?
Answers:They call that "salt creep". It's the result of hard water and disolved salts. There is a product available fro Foster and smith to eliminate it, bu i wouldn't bother, it dosn't hurt anything and it's easy to clean up. Here is a link anyway. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/pr.
You have hard water, meaning that there are a lot of minerals disolved in the water. As it evaporates the minerals form that stuff.
It's pretty harmless, but I don't have any really sensitive fish.
I live in Sacramento California, and I have very hard water.
