Texas Cichlid has reddish
My Texas cichlid has a reddish growth like thing on his gill and like a white spot on his tail fin and it seems to be eating his tail fin away very slowly
Know what it is? It seems like it might be some fungus or something.
Need to know what it is and how to heal it
Thanks
Answers:I would guess the tail is fin rot, since you described it as eating away, usually caused by poor water conditions. Ich/ick looks like salt sprinkles on the fish, but ich won't eat away the tail. Scroll down on the link to bacterial infections.
I'd also guess the red sore is columnaris, also caused by poor water conditions. Scroll down a bit further on link.
Need an antibiotic, I believe a product called Maracyn by Mardel would work for both of those, but check the box to be sure.
Remove any carbon from the filter before adding meds, and be sure to do weekly water changes after you finish with the meds. I would also slowly raise the temp in the tank to 82 degrees.

It does sound like a fungus, like ick, but I don't think ick attacks the gills. Go to your fish store, and they can give you medication for the tank.
Sounds like Ick and perhaps some other fungus. Buy some maracide to put in the tank. It is blue medicine that will cure your fish. It is also good to make sure you add some salt to the tank. most people forget that even freshwater tanks need a little salt to feel normal to the fish. Ask the expert at your local store how much to add to your freshwater tank based on its size.
