They say guppies are hardy so far i have kept all kinds of fish, even marine but for some reason gup2007-11-24 23:41:10

for some reason guppies don't last. As soon as they're in my tank, they start shivering with closed fins and then . you know. i have tried everything: soft n hard, aquasafe always, different sellers, salt, no predators, its quiet frustrating, any personal experiences?

Dont know what your prob is! I had some pretty exotic fresh water fish for quite a few years and gradually they all died off. A friend gave me ten guppies 2 months ago and now my aquarium has about 300 of them! I cant stoppem from breedin! They breed like rabbits! If you cant keep guppies alive you better give up aquariums!

How do you introduce them into your tank? It's always a good idea to set them in the water with the bag they came in. Just let it sit there for a good 10-15 minutes so that the they are eased into the water conditions/temperature. After the time is up, release them :) It's less stress on the fish. You probably do this already, but I don't know.

If you have a cold water tank and they are warm water fish then that could be a problem. Have you tried switching temperatures if you can? I wouldn't try that if there were other fish in the tank, of course.

i never had problems with guppies but who knows maybe they just aren't your thing. it is more important to find your thing then dwell on the past.

we have kept fish for over 35 years, usually more than a dozen tanks, have raised goldfish & koi (in ponds), south american cichlids (discus) and african cichlids (some really rare first breedings) but we cannot keep guppies alive, not even for feeders

guppy is a tropical fishy.so its important to check the water temperature. ive been keeping guppies since i was a lil girl. since i live in south east asia, maybe thats why i think my fishes were easy to handle.even ive only kept them in a small bowl without any fancy equipments, they breed until ive need to gave them away to my frenzz..

Yes they are a warm water breed. If you have a tank thermometer keep the temp i nthe upper yellow area if not just above it. Buy a tank heater it is pretty much needed for the higher temperatures. The rest should be history.
