Tiger Barbs

Would it be save to put Tiger Barbs in a community tank with Giant Danios, Bleeding Heart Tetras, and corys? I know Barbs are a bit aggressive. Would they bother these other fish?

Answers:

Tiger barbs are very cool looking fish, but a pain (to be blunt). They are semi-aggressive, and may harass your Bleeding Hearts into oblivion (the giant Danios are fast enough that they'll probably be alright.) Keep them in odd numbers of 5+ so they'll be busy with each other and more likely to leave the rest of the tank alone.

Tiger barbs are difficult because they are not exactly community fish, and they are not exactly aggressive fish either (hence, semi-aggressive). Some people have success with them, others have them kill off everything in their tank, including the rest of the barbs. Keep a close eye on them, particularly the first couple of weeks after you add them. And make sure you allot them enough space. Three gallons (or more) for every barb. Four for every Giant Danio and Three for every Bleeding heart. Make sure you have enough room. All three groups are schooling fish, and so they like five or more of their own kind. Cories probably won't cause an extreme issue of space, but if you have less than a 55 gallon tank, I wouldn't add the barbs. If you like the stripes, maybe try a school of black skirt tetras instead.

Tiger Barbs are usually OK in tanks with other fish that are the same size or larger than they are.
they'll be fine. If the other fish got long fins they may nip at them. but if you put enough other tiger barbs that should keep them occupied with each other.
If you put them (1) in a tank with fishes larger in size and (2) put a school (3+) of them in there, you should be fine. Single barbs usually cause the most damage.
just dont put them with long fined fish and make sure u have a school of them or they will nip and kill the other fish
Depending on the tank size the only one I would worry about are the tetras. If you lose the bleeding hearts you may want to go with a bigger species. While the tiger barbs are listed as aggressive, I have found them to not be overly so In a larger area. Another good mix would be to add Gouramis (again the same problem with the tetras). Here you have some variaty (flame, dwarf paradise - smaller these would work with your present mix gold ,opaline blue larger and would need to be minus the BHT or with a larger species) I have had all ( Gouramis)with tiger barbs that did well. For a mix you can also throw in rosy barbs. The cherry barbs would be the choice if you want to keep the tetras and want the color
You are right, they are aggressive. Those fish you named are very quick fish so I don't see where the problem would be.
actually you need to add 6+ for them to not to be aggressive toward the other fish. i don't know if you have the space for that much.
