Water Changing question
I have a 10 gallon fresh water gold fish tank. I've just recently moved about 2 weeks ago and it's about time for a 50% water change.but i'm faced with a problem. My tap water at the new house is treated and has sodium in it. I have a reverse osmosis system for drinking water but my water tank's only 5 gallons and I don't want to drain it. My question is can i go out and purchase, say, distilled water and use that? thanks!
Answers:If you are talking about water that's processed through a water softener, then try using water from an outside faucet, as they don't tend to be tied into most softener systems. If your just talking about "city" water, just change half as much as you usually do for a couple of changes, then you should be able to go back to your normal routine.
Don't use distilled. Plus people can't even drink it. its not healty. my dad uses it for his sleeping mask thing. Thats what he told me. Try a regular drinking water or to make it easier if you have any family near by ask them but figure out a way to transport it to the house. Just buy some water its easier. Like regular or spring
You can always do two 25% water changes.
I have three ten gallon tanks that I've had for going on three years. I do a 10% change every week and that seems to work just fine for me.
Yes you can.
If you must use bottled water do not use distilled, you spring water for it has proper minerals in it that is good for the fish.
20% or 25% weekly water changes are better for your fish than a 50% biweekly change. That way, you'd still have half of your RO water left after the change.
yes, I use distilled water every time I clean my thirty gallon tank as my water is very hard
Get a Brita or Pur on faucet filter! I've been using a Brita one and until the red light comes on my water test fine. I've got a tank full of guppies, a tank of Oranda goldfish and a tank of Mbuna Malawi's that have been living for years off 'Brita water' with no problems from the softened water (although I do have to re-harden the water for the Cichlids).
