We have a piece of coral my husband got snorkeling can we put it in a freshwater aquarium
Well, yes you can, but no you shouldn't. Coral, even if boiled to a sterile, salt-free state will cause the water hardness to rise to levels unhealthy for fresh water fish. This is due to the fact that coral is made up of calcium and that calcium will slowly dissolve into the water. When the hardness reaches levels deemed unsafe, the coral will have to be removed. This is harmful because you will subsequently lose a substantial amount of nitrifying bacteria in your aquarium and this will cause an ammonia spike (and possibly a nitrite spike afterwards if you have a high fish load) which will be quite stressful to the fish. In short, coral is not a good idea as a freshwater decoration.
Hope this helps you!

No! It has salt in it. Sorry.
No.
Why did your husband kill the coral?
Generally no. The salt from the coral is not good for most freshwater fish and can lead to problems.
Some brackish fish might like it, but unless you know what you are doing, it's best not to put real coral in a freshwater tank.
I'm not 1000% sure but if it was in saltwater I don't think you can put it in freshwater. If you do it will look good for a few days but it will die.The salt from it may hurt your fish to.Sorry!
No, coral are salt water animals. Since it was removed from the ocean it is probably now dead and placing dead animals in your tank will affect the water quality of your water. Also, your husband should know that it is illegal to damage a coral reef. They are an essential ecosytem and very senstive to damage. He could have inadvertantly killed the entire coral.
Yes. Once the coral is broke, it is dead. Boil it up to make sure any remaining life on it is dead, and then you just have a holee rock.
you can not put a piece of coral in a fresh water tank without cleaning, boiling, the piece. You will want to remove the salt from the coral as much as possible. It will put the alkalinity of the tank off and fresh water fish will die.
NO!! your not supposed to take coral from the ocean and kill it!! its salt water!!
No you can't put it in a freshwater aquarium. Corals are saltwater, and if you broke it off, it's probably dead by now.

absolutely not. it wouldnt die right away, but its salt water, and your aquarium is fresh water. so, no.
no your never supposed to put things you found outside or in the ocean in the tank, because of pesticides and bad things. But your husband is not a di- you know what.
