What are all these bubbles at the corner of my fish tank2007-11-24 23:41:20

I've had my betta fish for exactly one week already! One of these days, i noticed bubbles gathering at the corner of my betta's one gallon tank, and i was wondering what is was. I did't like the look of it, so I mixed the tank water so they would go away. They eventually went away, and just now, I was reading that betta's do "bubble nests". do males make bubble nests?? was my male betta doing a bubble nest? was it getting ready to mate? I'm sooo curious!!

Answers:

The males tend to establish a terrtiory. When they've established a terriory, and they are relatively "happy". (Happy= food, and good water conditions.) They will insictively build bubblenests. This is instinctive. Your betta is a loner like all male bettas. Mating is a stressful, brutal, and dangerous experience. Many 1st time breeders lose either the male or female.

In nature a betta lives in a large rice patty, or pond. A male needs to be ready if a female wanders by. If the female is ready to mate they mate. Otherwise he drives her off. Once mating is done the male defends the net against any other fish. This includes the female. In a tank/bowl the male will often kill, or injure the female if she is left in with the male.

All bettas male and female betta are aggressive towards other betta. Males can't be kept with other betta of any sex. (In small tanks/bowls they tend be aggressive toward all fish.)

Females can coexist in large tank with of cover. 1 per 5-10 gallons depending on the aggression of the female. Generally the females will spend a week ripping chunks of each other's fins out until a pecking order is established. (adding or remove betta can restart the fighting)

My male betta does that too and I was wondering what it was also
YES! he wants to mate! but mating them is very difficult cuz the male AND the female have to ready at the same time. females can get pretty mean too if they are not ready!!
Yup it was a bubble nest. He was making his home nice and cozy.
yes, sounds like a bubble nest
Sounds like a nice healthy male betta that would apreciate a girlfiend.
