What are some nice looking easy to keep freshwater tropical fish And do fish tails, flippers grow ba2007-11-24 23:41:23

I have a 2.5 minibow, and would like to put a couple of small, nice looking tropical fish. Anyone got suggestions? My beta bit of part of my platies tale, so will it grow back and heal or no?

Unless the base of the fin is damaged they will go back. Honestly a 2.5 gallon tank is a bit small for more fish. A male betta generally will not tolerate other fish in it's territory. In your tank that's the whole tank. Also you should only have 1 inch per gallon for small slim bodied tropical fish. A betta is 2 inches, and the platty is at least 2. Generally with male betta you need a larger than 5 gallon tank, and tank mates that aren't slow,or look like betta.

Puffers- The tank is too small for a puffer, and it will kill everything in the tank. Type "dwarf puffer killed" no quotes into any search engine.

Guppy- Male fancy guppy are the worst betta tankmates. They are slow and have flowy tails. Even betta females tend to kill them in small tanks.

If you mean you have a 2.5 gallon aquarium you shouldn't keep much more in it than you already have - a platy and a betta. That is not enough water to support a lot of fish. If you must get something different go with plain guppies. They are a lot smaller than the fancy ones and they do have pretty colors. They mate constantly and have live babies.

The betta will continue to torment the platy and the platy will die of either stress or sickness/infection. The tail will grow back, if its seperated from the betta. Bettas are called FIGHTING FISH for a reason. Keep the betta alone in his 2.5 tank. Add some plastic plants it'll appreciate them. You clearly are a fish noob.

All fish require the same care once the tank is set up. A 2.5 gallon is too small to keep mare then a Betta since they don't make heaters for tanks of that size. The fish's tail will grow back but you should add two teaspoons of aquarium salt to the water to stop it form getting infected.
