What fish can i have in a bowl with no bubbles or filter and wont die2007-11-24 23:11:53

i would like a fish bowl for my desk and i would like to know what kinds of fish i can keep in it. i like bettas and thay are pretty but i was wondering what other kinds of fish i can keep in a bowl. also is there any kinds of frogs or shrimp that i can keep in the bowl too so it looks interesting. thanks for your help!

Your best bet is a Betta. They handle lower water temperatures very well, they don't need any water circulation because they have a lung (labrynth), and they have beautiful ranges of colors. You can even keep a Betta in a small clear cup if you'd like, and this is actually what you'd find them in at the pet store.

Don't try a goldfish because they need circulation and filtration, no matter what the pet store tells you. They are a dirty fish, hardy but dirty, and they need all the cleaning you can provide.

Any other fish are primarily your "tropical" variety and need a filter and, above that, a heat source.

Definitely, a Betta is the best way to go, but you can only have one per bowl / tank / or habitat.

gold fish or a Betta. As long as you keep the Betta were is will not get drafty because the like their water warm.
pretty much a betta w a snail or with a dwarf frog. there are other labrynth fish (gouramis) but they are too big for most bowls. but i would definately stay away from a goldfish. they really need a lot of room. they have a lot of body mass and create a lot of waste. its healthier for them about 1 per 10 gal of water, since they all get 12 in or bigger. you end up cutting their life span down (they can live over 20 years) by keeping them in bowls.
goldfish would live. depending on the kind of fish you get, i wouldnt put shrimp in with the fish... unless the shrimp is too big to fit in the fish's mouth. even then it would be kind of hard to tell if the fish wont try to eat it.. or even nip at it
not a guppy. golfish are easy to take care of. But the only one i know for sure is a betta. Ive had a betta before in my bowl and one in my 1 gallon tank. Theyll do 99.99% fine in a bolw. As 4 guppies they reqire a heater. Just not in dirrect sunlight. Bettas have gland on thier head that lets them have airwhen they go to the top.
A betta is the only fish that can survive in that kind of environment.
