What happened to my Snails
I had 5 snails in my tank then one day I realized I had 3--there was no indication of what happened to them (not even a shell was left)--then today I come home and it seems like the remaining 3 are dead. The largest one has attached himself to one of the smaller ones who is all closed up. The third is just floating all closed up in the water. I noticed this weekend that they were moving sluggishly (if you can say so for a snail) but paid it no mind. All of the fish seem to be fine.
Does anyone seem to know what happened to my snails and how I can prevent it in the future
I know everyone hates snails but mine had character and were very interesting to watch.
Answers:Snails can be extremely susceptible to water quality having no scales to protect their soft bodies. Try increasing your water changes using bottled distilled water instead of de-chlorinated tap water (which can contain phosphates that increase algae growth. If you are worried about your snail starving, add a slice of cucumber every now and then. You may have to weight it down with a rock.
