What happens if my guppy has babies at night2007-11-24 23:11:56

If my Female guppy has babies at night will she eat them straight away?

Answers:

At night it will be dark and your female and other tank mates wil probibly not see them, Provide lots of plants (real or fake) some for the bottom of the tank and some floating plants, This will save most of the fry's lifes, And then you can net them out and put them in a breeder net/box or in the own fry tank.

Not likely if you keep her well fed and give the babies somewhere to hide. They have floating grass mats on the market for such an event, or you can get some floating vegetation from your local pet store to give the fry somewhere to hyde, something to munch on, and help oxyginate the water. Congratulations on your babies!! Also, once you see babies, pull the mom out to make yourself feel better, or just be sure you have places for the babies to hide. Also, the males are more likely to eat the fry. That's also a good reason for hiding places!!

they will probably get eaten...Put some thick plants in for them to hide in or something that bigger fish cannot swim into..that always helps..then you can get them the next day and put them in a nursery ( if you have one)
