What if you have a pleco and there is no visible algae in the tank- will it starve
I'm worried about my mango pleco- he's been a lot more active lately, I hope its not because he's starving looking for food.
Answers:You could curb your worries by adding a food designated especially for Pleco's. Even though a Pleco is destined to eat away your algae build up, having another source or should I say, a primary source, of food is a must.
A couple of recommendations:
1. Plecomin by Tetra.
2. Algae Wafers by Hikari.
Both would be suitable for your Pleco as algae establishes in your tank. Although, I always recommend Hikari products above other brands simply because of the higher quality of Hikari's line of food.
If your Pleco is under 3" currently, halfing the tabs of either food would be best. That'll lessen the amount of uneaten food that'll just become harmful in your tank.
I think you need to be giving it an algae wafer once a week or putting some pumpkin, broccoli or zucchini in the tank too. Just don't over feed it - no algae is a good sign.
He could be, they are grazers and eat constantly, while you wait for the algae to build up, you can get fish flakes, crush them up and make them sink to the bottom, he will smell them and have a go at them , mine loves fish flakes.
Or you could try to get an object from the pet shop which has algae on it already, like a live plant?
Pick up some algae tablets to supplement what little algae there is in the tank.
are they those "alge eater tank suckers? if so they will eat fish food.. mine does.
Dont waste your money on that algae wafer crap.
