What is (in your opinion) the best filter for a saltwater aquarium
I just took the last remaining freshwater fish from my 55 gallon tank and moved them to a smaller tank since it was wasted space.. (I have had the fish for a few years now and when they started dying - I didn't replace them)
I would now like to set up a saltwater system in my 55 gallon tank and I have most of the supplies I need except for a good filter (I was using a regent brand hang on filter that came with my tank when I bought it)
So what is the best filter in your opinion and why?
Answers:I am the only one in my family who keeps fresh water fish and I think I may try out the marine thing as well. I found this web site when doing my research- it is easy to understand and answered most of my questions. (It does adress filtration)

under gravel filter , but prepared for a lot of maintantce with saltwater
Protein skimmer and live rock.
I really like my Emperor filter. My tank is 50 gallons and the filter allows me to keep more fish than a cheaper filter. I also suggest having live rock and a "cleaning crew" (snails, crabs, ect.)
I like emperor filters personally. But in your case you have to figure how much room you have to fit the equipment with your current hood as you will need room for a filter and skimmer, and possibly a refugium and wave maker. All this equipment will require a certain amount of room, and I know with my tank that is very limited
