What is the best small (under 3 1/2 gallons) aquarium where my single male betta will be happy2007-11-24 23:41:00

My fish bowl I have him in now is one gallon, and I'd like it to be at least 2 1/2 gallons so i can add plants and decor.

Any bowl will do, even a decorative vase from a house ware type store. Standard aquariums from pet stores will work too. Take some time to seek out what works for your space and decor. Beta's don't need aeration like other kinds of fish.

i wouldn,t ever use anything smaller than ten gallon aq for ay fish except fry. perhaps a lone male beta can get by in a smaller tank, but i wouldn,t do it. get a ten gallon tank and some small peaceful fish toi include you can keep fry in a large bowlor small tank for a few weeks sucsessfuly

2 1/2 to 3 1/2 gallons is perfect for your betta. Even though they are sold in little containers, they do like to swim. We have one in our 90 gallon and he is very active. The plants and decor helps their livelihood too as just a plain container doesn't give him anything to feel like home, that's why they are so lethargic looking in stores. Hope this helps

Generally I prefer a tank with an integrated filter that includes a dry/wet wheel (aka bio wheel). This gives you good bio, mechanical, and chemical filtration. Eclipse makes a good 2.5, and 3 gallon. There is also Eclipse 5 gallon hex tank I use.* The various minibow aquarium have okay mech and chem filtration. But let's face it a single betta in such a tank does need much filtration. (You'll just need to change the water more often in such a tank.) Any decent filtered tank should be good with a 10-15% water change via gravel vacuum twice a month. (The less decent ones you may need to do a 20% change.) Just be sure you aren't over feeding.
