What is the best way to clean lime build up on the inside glass of an established fish tank2007-11-24 23:41:03

I have 150 gallon well established tank,with lime build up,any suggestions on how to clean this,would rather not drain tank if possible,dont wanna destroy my well established ecosystem,any suggestions would be helpful,thank you

Buy a razor glass scraper from a paint department of a store. They are inexpensive and may help. They are used to remove paint drips from windows and will not scratch the tank. I use one in my saltwater tank to remove coralline algae and in my freshwater tanks to remove regular algae. It works a lot better then a sponge.

I've seen these razor blade scrappers at wal-mart, they work good for scraping. Really the only way to safely remove lime in a tank is to scrape it off. 150 gallons wow that's going to take a while! To prevent the lime from building up again you can get a brita water filter that attaches to the faucet, that should help, plus it removes heavy metals and chlorine too!

Get one of those paint scrapers with a razor blade and scrape it off. Anything else would be harmful to your fish.

You may also wanna check with the store if they have the magnetic limescale cleaner. that way you dun havta get your hands wet nor will it disturb the tanks ecosystem.

in the kitchenware section of the grocery store get one of those plastic scrubber things (it's like a brillo pad but it's plastic & has no soap) it's real handy for scrubbing inside glass
