What is the best way to let my goldfish breed2007-11-24 23:41:05

In my outside pond,my fish have bred for two years but the eggs vanish.not sure where they go?? How can I protect them?

Answers:

They are eaten. Probably add more hiding places for fry (in form of plants etc.) and if you see any eggs or fry, remove them and raise them seperately.

Take out the breeding fish and keep the eggs once laid separate. The reason they are disappearing is the other fish are eating them. Make sure the fry are quiet large before you return them to the pond.

They are confusing the fry(fish eggs) for food. There are special separators that you can buy at the pet store. You put the pregnant fish in it and the fry will be safe.

The fish themselves could be eating them,or maybe something else that you don't know about is in there,remove eggs and weed that they are attached to and put in a large,well aereated tank until they hatch,feed them on fry feed,after a few weeks ,when they have grown a bit ,return them to the pond.

everyone is right but you cant put your preg female in a breeding trap and the eggs are fertilised outside the body and i know its hard to take the eggs out so the best way so some survive is to put loads of plants in your pond
