What is the normal lifespan of a goldfish2007-11-24 23:12:03
i bought 3 goldfish and i've had them for a little over a month i want to see if i'm doing a good job or if it's normal for people to have them longer.(this question is assuming you take care of them and don't buy them thinking of lunch).
Answers:So far so good! Goldfish are fun, hearty & remarkable fish.
Goldfish can live 20 years or more.
(roughly 10x a Hamster's age!)
They can really get quite attached to you if you regularly give them clean water, and attention. You'd be surprised what tricks a patient owner can teach them as they grow.
Read up on them and try to make their lives as happy as you can.
Assuming they're housed in a proper sized tank, have frequent water changes done, and are fed a varied diet, they can live 10-20 years. I have 3 comets(had 5, two went MIA in the pond a few weeks ago), but I've had them going on about 8 years now. They stay in the pond spring-fall, come inside during the winter, and knock on wood-never had any problems/diseases with them.
depends on the care they're given. they SHOULD live about 20yrs, at least. however most don't know the proper care for a goldfish so they don't live long at all.
if you'd like help on caring for them feel free to email me or check out the link in my profile. I have four, the oldest is 9yrs old.
i still have goldfish that were used for an school experiment and that was over 12 years ago.
