What is this clear bubble under my bettas eye
I just purchased a betta, and he has a clear bubble under his eye. It's not just a bump, it's an actual bubble. He seems to be healthy other than that(active and eating well). Can anyone tell me what this is caused from?
Answers:it does sound like something along the lines of a cyst. does it look like a fluid filled sack? possibly from an infection or old injury.
you will need to keep his water pristine (which is where keeping a betta in a filtered tank over a vase is better) and keep a close eye on it. if it looks like it's got blood in it or fungus you will need to treat with antibacterial medication such as bettafix (or a low dose of melafix).
if you are keeping him in a vase, keep it barebottomed. barebottomed keeps it easier to keep clean. i've also heard that keeping live plants in an unfiltered tank can cause problems as well. i had an experience where i tried this, and one of my bettas got the symptoms of gill flukes, that went away after I removed the plants and treated with medication. my unfiltered tanks have had silk plants only since then!
Hard to say without a picture and that does seem odd. Did he have this at the store or did it develop after you got him? How are you housing him? While a Betta can be put into bowls and vases, this is not the ideal set up for a Betta. Water quality will play a factor in disease in many cases, and housing them in bowls and vases require more attentive maintence in order to achieve the proper water quality then if in a filtered heated tank. If you can get a picture of this, that might help in diagnosis and treatment options.
