What is this in my fighting fishs water2007-11-24 23:41:54

in my fighting fish bowel it has this whitish stuff floting on top of the water almost like a skin. what is it? my fish blows bubbles does this all mean he is a boy?

Answers:

Male Siamese fighting fish build a nest of bubbles among plant leaves. To make the bubbles, the fish takes up air in its mouth, coats it with saliva (spit), and spits out the bubbles, which stick together on the surface of the water. After this, he shows off to attract a female below the nest. They swim around together, and she releases eggs. He fertilises them with liquid from his body, which means that baby fish will grow in the eggs. As the eggs float to the bottom, the male catches them in his mouth and spits them into the bubble nest. He then watches over the nest, protecting the eggs from being eaten and putting any fallen eggs back into the nest. When the eggs hatch, the little fish swim away. Sadly, the male fish, after all that work looking after the eggs, sometimes eats the baby fish

The white stuff is on my fish tank too it all has to do with it being dirty just change the water more frequently
The bubbles on the top of the water is the "nest" the male builds when he's ready to breed.
its dirt or bubbles. clean the tank.
fish name is cupang in my word (ind) or betta sp

the male fish will make bubble before the couple and this will be use to take care eggs and larva

The stuff floating on top on the water (and if there is white stuff) it means those are fertilized eggs. dont touch it or clean it they should hatch in about a couple of days, and yes generally if the fish is blowing bubbles then its a boy thats how they protect the eggs is blow bubbles and then fertilize them and then they stay in the bubbles until they hatch.
My guess is that the white floating skin like layer is protein, I usually gets in in my planted tank. It could be from uneaten fish food. You could just drop a thin tissue paper flat on the surface of the water and when it's soaked just pick it up and throw it away. The protein layer will usually stick to the tissue. The other simpler method is just to change the water.

Yap, if his making a bubble nest it's probably a boy!
