Answers:Betas do NOT live long. A lot of them are sick because they need such special care, and they don't get it.
I would get another fish.
you probly got a sick one. when getting a betta you need to make sure they have good color, fins are all open, they are swiming around, have a bubble nest and flair up when it sees a thret.
he has depression! just kidding! maybe he will eat later? if you only got him a while ago, he needs to get used to his new surroundings! if he still doesnt seem active, maybe take him back to the store and ask someone if this is normal. best of luck!
Do you use a little bowl like the ones at the pet store? They should really be in a tank with a filter (2-5 gallons). They're happy when they can swim around. He may be sick or he may be stressed. Pick up some stress coat and put a few drops in to help him mellow out. Keep him in a quiet area of the house. Try feeding a few flakes a couple of times a day until he eats. If he doesn't eat in 10 minutes, remove the excess food.
If it was 1 or 2 days ago, then he's getting used to hiis new habitat. All fish take a couple days to get used to their new habitat.
If it was more than 2 days ago, then chances are that you bought a diseased fish:(
