What is wrong with my fish2007-11-24 23:41:55

I just got a black moore about a week ago, and now he has these white filmy spots all over his body. What is this? What do I do? And Should I quarentine him?

Ick looks like salt, fungus looks slimmy or fuzzy. Many times fungal infections are secondary to a bacterial or parasite infection or from water quality. Is it a new tank and still cycling? Did you recently do a huge water change (which is bad)?

I'd start out with bringing a water sample to you local fish store and get it tested, mainly for ammonia and nitrites.

If it is due to water quality, many times throwing mediactions in will make it worse. Best to find out why they have whatever the infection is and solve the problem.

I have found that Furan 2 works great for goldfish slime disease, but any medication should be done in a seperate tank to maintain water quality seeing most medications kill all the beneficial bacteria in the tank.

Even if you seperate him and treat him, get the main tank tested like I mentioned before to make sure there is no problem in there for the rest of the fish.

He has ich. I'm not sure of the treatment but your pet store has some stuff to pour in the water to treat it. Quarantining would be a good idea.

It sounds like a fungus. It's not easy to tell what kind fo sickness a fish has without seeing it.
