What its the Brown algae like substance on the inside of my fish tank and what can I do to prevent i2007-11-24 23:41:57

When you say the Ammonia is in the normal range, I assume that means zero?

My tank became full of brown algae after the first few weeks and I believe it can be common in new set-ups. When I added two Otocinclus (dwarf catfish) the algae completely disappeared. However, they do not eat all types of algae.

There are descriptions of the many types of algae on the internet if you do a search.

you can always try reverse osmosis water. RO water will prevent the growth of algae The brown algae may just be from not cleaning the tank enough.

i asked the same question 1. I bet you have live plants if so its fuss algae like im getting i found out its common in live planted aquariums i suggest a plecotomus to get rid of it as thats what i got suggested to do just havent done it yet plan on getting one first of next month mine appears gray like small cobweb type hairs and yes my water tests fine too algae is just a fact of life i have also been told to reduce the amount of time the light stays on as this will help
