I prefer bottled spring water (not distilled or RO - it is to pure). Tap water can contain things that cannot easily be removed like phosphates. Bettas don't care if they have a lot or a little bit of room for swimming as they tend to stay in the same general area anyway, but with a tank the size of yours, it will be much easier to keep the water pollutants from becoming too concentrated.

Is better to give betta more space. The only thing to remember is you can have only one betta in that tank since they will attack their own kind. You can however keep other peaceful fish in the same tank.

You can use water straight from the tap, but be sure to condition it. You can buy products from anyplace that sells fish supplies, like Wal-Mart or Petco. Some are in liquid drop form and others are tablets. Just be sure the water is conditioned before you put the fish in. I use the Bowl Buddies tablets that dissolve in the water. The label will tell you how much to use for your specific size tank.

I think it's great that you have such a large tank, just don't decide it looks too empty with only one fish and put more in. Not only will they attack their own kind, but any other kind of fish could get attacked. Other fish could nip the Betta's fins off.

You can use tap water. All you have to do is add water conditioner. Ask the people at the store you bought it at if you aren't sure which one to buy or how much to use.

You should use freshwater at room temperature.and you have to. HAVE TO..add a liquid called water conditioner.The chlorine in tap water will burn your fish every time you clean the tank..its not very nice for them, water conditioner will fix that! That sized fishtank is fine, keep in mind you bought him in a 4inch cup! Just make sure you have a little heater, it can live without one, but he will be happier and live longer with an average of 80 degrees!
