What size tank should my turtles be in2007-11-24 23:42:27

One is about 6 cm long, the other a bit bigger. At the moment they're in a 3 foot by 1.5 foot tank. Is that big enough? They're just little short necked turtles, not sure what the real breed is cos I got given them.

Basically here is the math about turtles I own several breeding pairs. One pair there shells are 7 inches and 8 inches this pair is set up in a 75 gallon tank 48x18x24 half land half water. Do not use sand with turtles because they will eat it and impact there there stomach's. The tank should be 4 times there shell wide and 6 times there shell in lenght so it sounds like your tank is plenty big for now. But rememeber they are going to grow fast so you might want to start thinking about a larger tank. My tank water is kept at 68 degree's with basking erea's being kept at 75 degree's, 85 degree's and 95 degree's this allows them to choose how warm they want to get. Rememeber use round smooth rocks that will not fit into there mouths because they will try to eat them and don't use fake plants because they'll eat them to. Make sure you keep there water clean because they go to the bathroom in the same water they drink so drain your tank once a week and clean it really good for them.

sorry dear, I believe that the tortise should go back to her natural habitat. no matter how comfortable you try to make them, they will not live as happily as they would in their natural surroundings. they are also known to die early in captivity.

put in some sand, trees, and when u give them food, can't u remove them outside for sometime so tht the water can remain cleaner

if you turtles have room to turn around with no problem, you should be fine for now.

Several pet shops sell special filter for turtle tanks. Might want to invest in one of these. I dunno exactly where to find them, but i will send a link, so you know what you are looking for.
