What tank mate would be best for my Siamese fighting fish in a small tank2007-11-24 23:42:29

If any.he's very active and I wondered if anybody has had good results putting platys or white cloud minnows with a betta??

We have had neon tetras and African frogs in the tank with our Betta. Everyone is doing fine and it has been over a year. It is a 20 gallon tank, plenty of plants (some are planted in the bottom and a few float along the top loose) and one large rock in the center to create boundaries for everyone.

Any fish you do get make sure they don't have long flashy tails or pectoral fins.even if you take the Betta out, move everything around and then add the Betta back in he will still go after those long fins and tear them apart.

Now it depends how big the tank is. If its a gallon or two then nothing. But usually Betta's can get along with community types of fish except don't mix with angels and barbs. But a Betta does good in a community tank ONLY if it's added last. If the Betta is first it's really territorial and if that happens just move the decorations around to confuse him. But like I said if it's a small tank (1-3 gallons) you can't put anything else in the tank with him because the tank is maxed out (one gallon per inch of fresh water fish and Betta's are about 2 inches at adulthood).
