What to do with my cichlids and other fisharound Christmas I will be going home for a month2007-11-24 23:42:32

I don't know anyone here that can feed them and those vacation feeders make the tank messy.

Answers:

buy a automatic fish feeder for your tank.

well you could ask one of you friend to watch for them our you could probaly tell the animal shelter if they could hold on to them they might
I can see your dilemma. Packing up the fish and moving them for just one month is stressful for you and the fish.

If you don't have a friend who can feed them, I would do a good water change right before you leave and go with a feeder. I know its messy, but it is better than coming back to dead fish.

Another option perhaps would be to over fill the tank with feeder fish. The down fall is they may over load the tank with ammonia and nitrates.

Good Luck and Take Care

Sell your fish and buy new ones when you get back. Vacation feeders are only good for about a week to 10 days. Or maybe check with your local aquarium store and see if they will watch them for perhaps a small fee. But I think your best bet is to sell and get new ones later.
automatic fish feeders are inexpensive.

cichlids are fine when you leave them over a long period of time. When you come back, they will just eat each other when they get hungry lol.
