on a real note, automatic feeders are your best choice. its cheap and works really well. I left for 2 weeks before over Christmas break and it was fine when I came back. However, if you don't trust the automatic feeders, you can make an agreement of a local fish store in your area to come over twice a week to feed them for a small fee. I once had a salt water tank with lion fishes and eels that require live gold fish and frozen silversides. They just came over twice a week for me to feed them and everything was fine.
I like to billet my fish at a pet store. This way you know they are cared for. The fee is quite reasonable.
You could take them with you. It depends on how big the tank is though. Perhaps you could start experienting with a vacation feeder now and get it calabrated properly before you leave. Spend the next few months working with it and you should be in good shape when you leave. If you can't find anyone to care for them that will be your only choice. Good luck. Start calibrating it now!
