If its a parrot cichlid, depending on tank size, you could try any of these: another type of cichlid (Jack Dempsey, Oscar, Flowerhorn etc), polypterus, armoured cat (Hoplo).

try a poly palama they are like a water snake they will grow to around 25cm in lenght they will leave it alone but at the same time they wont take any crap, they are around 10-13 pounds at most shops hope this helps
