Take Care

Well, if it's only a 5 gallon, I would recommend something on the lines of an apple snail. My cousin has one in his aquarium and it does a pretty good job of cleaning up.
5 gallon tank means you can only have a maximum of 4-5 fish in the tank. 4 is probably better unless you have an air stone.

We've had pleccostymus (sucker fish) for years. They will grow in proportion to the size of your tank. We started with a small one and now he is the whole height of the tank. He hangs out by the filter and is a happy guy.

We tried using plecostymusses (I have REALLY bad spelling!) and they didn't do a gosh darn thing for our tank. Someone at the pet store recommended a 'Chinese Algae Eater' so we tried it. IN just one hour he had one side of the tank already spotless (No jokes!). But, if you get one, you'll have to purchase some Algae tablets too that he can eat, because they will eat Algae fast and at ever available opportunity possible.

But seriously, I would recommend this kind of algae eater to anyone. They don't grown real big and they're real easy to take care of. Plus, they are super cute!

snails or ghost shrimp.shrimp can be really cool and fun to watch
As already stated, 5 gallon is too small for goldfish. As well as too small for a pleco-even the smaller ones. Snails and ghost shrimp would be best, but due to the ammonia output of those goldfish in such a small environment, the snail and shrimp would die off pretty quick, very sensitive to water conditions.
