What type of fish and why zebra danios or tiger barbs or rosy red barbs2007-11-24 23:42:35

Which one is best? Hardiest? Prettiest? I want one of those fish, but I want to know which is best to have in a tropical community tank and why. Thank you

The barbs simply will not work for a community tank with peaceful fish, as they're both considered semi-aggressive. If you want a peaceful barb for your tank, look into cherry barbs.

The danios aren't necessarily pretty (a lot of people think they're rather plain), but they are extremely hardy - I have yet to kill one in more than a year, and three of 'em have been through one complete cycle in my 55-gallon tank. Plus they're quite spazzy and fun to watch. So ultimately, I'd have to say the danio would be the best choice of the three, but don't keep yourself limited at only zebra danios - if you're willing to shell out a couple extra bucks, see if your local pet store stocks Glo-Fish danios. They are absolutely gorgeous creatures. And as I said in a previous answer, the giant danios and long-finned danios are quite pretty, too.

A word to the wise - they are schooling fish, so don't get only one. You'll need a minimum of three to keep them from nipping at other fish.

Well, Danios are less aggressive than barb's. Especially if they are in a small aquarium.

Rosy red are the Heartiest.they are awesome fish that wont die on you.Zebra danios arent as hearty but they are sooo cute, and hearty enough..i say go with one of those two!

Tiger barbs are suposedly hearty, but when I had them they killed eachother! lol
