What type of fish is easy to look after but isnt a goldfish2007-11-24 23:42:36

Looking to get my son some pet fish for his birthday, but he isn't interested in goldfish. "They're boring" he says.

Answers:

Neons, guppies and carp are pretty easy to take care of.

Tropical, mainly ciclids
a guppy they r small and they glow a bit also
try some frozen salmon or orange roughie.

if you get hungry. you only have to look after them for a few minutes while preparing to consume them .

guppies. herhherh
I was fond of my Great White Shark.try it.
A beta fish is very easy to look after and they are very pretty as well. They come in lots of colors like red, blue, yellow, and some multi colored. They don't need a filter or anything. Just a glass bowl and food each day. I only have to clean my fish bowl about once a week.
beta's (cant mix with other betas or some other fish), plecostamus', tetras, bala sharks, ask your fish person at the pet store
if your son finds goldfish boring, he is gonna think that any other fish is boring too.

i have angelfish. they are beautiful. and i have no problems with them. so, i guess they are easy to take care of.

but your son might find a lizard more exiting than a fish.

Unless you are wanting to clean a large fish tank each week try him first on 1 or two Betta fish. Most of the national pet stores will carry a "Betta Tank" which basically divides the tank into two separate sections by plexi-glass. They are about the size of a large fish bowl. Put a Betta in each section with a small plastic plant and some gravel. When the Betta fish see each other they will go into fighting mode with a fins fully extended. They are beautiful fish in brilliant colors. Never put Betta's in the same bowl as they will kill each other. I had one Betta in a gallon size container. He loved to be stroked lightly on his fins (really unusual) and a couple of times a day for an hour or so I would hang a small round mirror (like in birdcages) from the edge of his bowl into the water. He thought this was another fish and went into fighting mode. My son loved to watch the Betta more than he did the fish in the 25 gallon tank (mollies, very easy also).
Guppy is easy to take care. But dont put female and male together if you have a small tank.
I just got my kids a 10 gal starter fish tank kit at walmart for like 30 bucks, i got some guppies i will say that guppies are pretty easy to take care of, they are pretty, i would just get only male ones, they are the prettiest, they look very bright under the tank light and also they are pretty depending on the food you feed them. The females are live barers and they have baby fishies every 3 weeks. Remember you can only have 1 fish per each gallon, also check with the pet store which fish get along with other fish, and the bigger the tank, the easier it is to take care of.
Rainbow fishes are easy to rear but need air pump. If no air pump you may want to try kissing fish.
paradise fish. they have rainbow strips, can withstand mud water, and turn into up to 6 cm in length. related to an angel fish and live in cold water
beta fish are quite easy also guppies are easy to and you can have more than one in a tank together but be careful guppies can have babies so be careful about that but do research on any fish before you decide to get it
I don't know if I spelled this right, but a baita fish. They are usually red and blue, or a mix between the colors. Also, very pretty and I'm sure he'll love it.
Beta fish are extremely easy to take care of and come in a variety of cool colors. If you forget to feed them as kids do alot or go away frequently they don't die as easily as other fish. Tetras and guppies are also easy to take care of.
Bettas, guppies, platies, mollies, etc. However, all fish requires maintenance! Don't buy him a pair (male/female) then they'll have babies and it takes experience and patience and MAINTENANCE to take care of frys.
zebra dahnoes or white clouds
