As far as stocking goes, one pair of adult convicts will be plenty since they will terrorize any other fish unlucky enough to be in the tank when they are breeding. If you go with livebearers I would not get too many, maybe a half dozen or so. You'll want to leave room for the offspring if things work out and there are babies. Plus, if you are like me you'll want to leave room for the impulse buy fish you saw in the pet store!

Nobody has given you a single correct answer. Guppies and especially tetras are very sensitive and hard to breed in captivity.

If you want a super hardy fish that breads in captivity readily get convict cichlids.

Other notable mentions are mollies, platys, and swords.

Gold fish.

And I'd get about 4 or 5 of them.

Guppy's, Goldfish, or Betta's.
Guppys
Guppies, gouramis, mollies, platies, cories, barbs, tetras.

GUPPIES, MOLLIES, AND PLATIES CONSTANTLY BREED!

Get about 5 guppies, 3 gouramis, 5 mollies, 2 platies, and definitely a couple of cories to clean your tank.

You can put in barbs or tetras for the mollies or guppies, but I personally wouldn't, since mollies and guppies live longer. Plus you can get guppies and mollies to breed easier.

You could possibly even put a betta female in there, but I would want to see what its personality is like first. Seclude it in a small betta vase (just for now) and set the vase by the tank. If the female betta flares up, it can't go in the tank. If the betta seems shy, and won't move much, and every time a fish comes close to her vase she freaks out, no, you can't put her in the tank either. If she seems eager, go right ahead! Just watch her, to make sure she doesn't seclude herself in a corner, or attack the other fish.
