I run tap water right from the sink, then let it sit for 3 hours. Once the water settles and its about room temperature, its been good for my betas.
Soft water is better for them(slightly acidic).Bottled water is expensive but clean and you can add them in small amounts.Tap water could be used when you add dechlorinator or leave the water for 24 hours for the poisonous chlorine to dissapear.Salt can be used to prevent diseases or urge them to spawn.
Personally I like boiling water. Tie a string to it's tail. and steep for two minutes longer if you like stronger Betta tea. Sugar, cream or lemon to taste.
I use Mineral water and treat it with stress coat and stress zyme and I also use Indian almond leaves in there water
