Angelfish look calm and petite BUT THEY ARE WOLVES IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING. They have a wider opening to its mouth than you would think. I have had a few angelfish in the past and they love nothing better than live fish to eat. I lost nearly all of my 15 neons to my first angelfish within 3 weeks the numbers just kept falling till I had only three very stressed neons left in the tank.

My suggestion is fast swimming fish with lots of hiding spots available or calm fish that are big enough not to be a snack between feeding say at least the size of a black widow (tetra) or a blood tetra both are great looking fish or even barbs.

My reference books suggest that the different types of angelfish have different needs do you know its scientific name. The majority sold are part of the cichlidae family and are usually compatible with the calmer cichlid species.

I find a good general rule if you are unsure of compatibility is to look for fish that originate from the same lake, river or swamp as they then have similar water needs and tend to tolerate each other better. For the angelfish select fish from the amazon.

I raised angel fish and found out they pick on most fish unless kept in a large aquarium with social fish. If you have more then one angel fish normally they will pick on others, taking scales off and sometimes killing them. I found the only other things you can put with them is disc, or other semi aggressive fish. All depends on the aquaruim and what you want to have in it or raise.

Angel fish although extremely beautiful are a bit on the aggressive side, so its good to keep them together because they like schooling and u can add ciclids with them as well

Angelfish may look pretty, but they are actually another type of Cichlids which is a territory fish and may be a bully. Just keep it with any types larger cos Angelfish tense to 'bully' smaller fishes.
