What types of live plants work well in a freshwater tropical aquarium with gravel2007-11-24 23:42:40

I have a 29 gallon freshwater tropical community tank with 2-3 inches of gravel substrate. There is a flourescent bulb and plenty of light, with great water conditions.

These particular plants should do well without any CO2. They will require liquid fertilizers though.

any of the Hygrophelia plants do very well in a community aquarium.

If it's the standard fluorescent strip light, you have a low light tank. I'd stick with things like java fern, java moss and anubias unless you add more light or put the tank by a window. You might be able to use crypts as well.

It gives you all kinds of info from pictures to writeups about the plant (placement in your tank, whether it can tolerate brackish conditions, and the levels of light needed).

Remember - 1wpg is low light - 2wpg is medium light - and 3 or more wpg is what would be considered high light. (wpg = Watt Per Gallon).
