What will happen if i move 3 Danios and a Glolight tetra into a new tank after 3 days of setting it2007-11-24 23:42:42

Will they die? If so why? Sensible answers only please!

Answers:

Move the filter and some of the old substrate with them and you should have no problem (even if you leave the old substrate in the legs of an old pair of nylons for a week and leave the old filter running for only a few days). If you don't 'seed' the new tank with the nitrifying bacteria of the old tank the spikes of nitrites, ammonia and nitrates in the new tank will poison the fish.

NO SHOULD NOT KILL THEM BUT LEAVE THEM IN A POLYTHENE BAG SO THE WATER TEMPERATURE EQUALS THE TANK OR THEY COULD DIE OF SHOCK.

the tank needs to be cycled but you can cycle your tank with the fish in them try this it may help good luck!

Use 1/2 of the old water in the new tank, if you can. Use the same gravel, decorations, filter if you can also. All of your beneficial bacteria will be on those items in some amount or other. If you're using a new filter, just hook the old filter on to the new tank for about a month or so(with the new one on also), that'll help kick start the new filter bacteria growth. This will prevent the tank from cycling and harming/killing the fish. Be sure to dechlorinate the fresh water added to the tank. Also, adjust them to the new tank water slowly. Maybe try putting them in a bucket with some of the old tank water, slowly add small amounts of the new water to the bucket. This will adjust them to the ph and temperature changes.

Ok, so ur moving them from one tank to another. put some of the water that they were in, in your new tank. Depending on the size of the tank the amount will vary. But about 30% should be ok. Also as another person has said, dont put them straight into the water put them in a bag first like when you first get them. leave them for half hour to adjust to the temperature then let em out

Well - I don't know how large your tank is, but if it were me I wouldn't put any fish into a tank that wasn't cycled first.
