What would be the best type of fish and live plants to put in my 29 gal tank with my fancy goldfish

Fancy tailed guppy's. they are non aggressive,they don't need a heated tank and they can survive almost anything & there are many colors to choose from.But the bread like crazy. If you get them and they have babies, make sure to take them out of the tank and put them in a separate bowl because they will be eaten.

UPDATE: regardless of what "Nunya Biznis" says, guppies do NOT need a heater. he obviousely does not have guppies or done research on them to know this info. Otherwise mine would had died many years ago if that was true. yet they thrive very healthly and continue to have babies like crazy. Guppies have also been an alternitive as pond fish. they eat the mesqitoes. Outside ponds dont have heaters last I knew ,so again.these hardy little fish would have died off long ago if that was true.

guppies have been used for controling diseases caused by masqitoes like malaria & west nile. Guppys can consume 200-300 mosquito larva per day. Guppies also can survive in polluted waters. Thats definately a hardy fish!

Though Guppies originate from South America, today they are found in every inland water body throughout the world, to aid in mosquito control.

and again, last I knew, EVERY inland water body throughout the world does not have heaters in them. sorry, I just had to say it one more time.
