Whats the hardiest (most low maintenance) fish youve ever kept
How long has it lived? Does it have tankmates?
Answers:Siamese Fighting Fish (scientific name: Betta Splendens Regan). I have one male for almost a year now. I feed him just once or twice a day with a few flakes at a time. He's staying in a small terrarium with fine gravel and snails. I only use tap water which I change once or twice a week.
Betta fish are very easy- a small bowl and food are all you need. They do best when alone.
a paradise fish. it lives for years, maybe 5 max.
and it's a loner.. it'll attack anything. maybe it'll be ok with fish bigger and more aggressive than it.
Goldfish, algea eaters. They lived a Looooong time and they multiplied like crazy! You could always give them to a pet store if you didn't want the young but I love watching the babies in my tank!
I had an Oscar that lived 6 years or so, not many tankmates, she would eat the little ones.
betta fish. I kept mine for 5 years
A betta for sure!
I had one in college & stuck it in a little bowl. I ended up letting my roommates keep it after I moved, & I swear they never changed that water. It was pure brown when I came to visit once, but that little guy lived for 3 years.
They also only eat every 2 or 3 days, & do great in small bowls or vases (they live in tiny puddles in the wild). The only drawback? You can only have 1 betta per tank. Thats why they are called "fighting fish". You cant even put a male & female together unless its time for them to mate. However, they do well in a community tank (platies, tetras & such).
