Whats wrong with my Betta Fish, looks like its on its death bed2007-11-24 23:42:45

This is for my sister's fish, mine's getting better. It looks like it is on its death bed. Getting paler by the day. Symptoms: hasn't eaten for 1.5 weeks, stays at the bottom, occassionally comes up for air, lethargic, a couple days ago the fish had a clear string of poo hanging from its poo area. She has been giving it bettafix(has Melaleuca) for a week.

This doesn't not sound like ich. Ich would appear as a spinkling of salt on the skin of the betta. Possibly a bacterial infection, or ammonia poisoning. At this point all you can do is keep it's water as clean as possible, don't subject it to rapid temp change, and don't over feed, or leave uneaten food in the water.

PS- You might want to add 1 teaspoon per 2.5 gallons. Also check out the betta talk disease section. It could per something weird like velvet.

Betta don't live very long. How old is it? If it is getting paler, I hate to tell you this, but I don't think it is going to pull out.

Change the water more often, as it may not be getting enough oxygen, or try bottled/filtered water.

More than likely, though, there isn't enough surface area on the water for it to get oxygen.

feed it sum blood worm and buy sum neons they love neons .sounds t me like it 's just hungry fer sum real food

I have 10 bettas. I had other ones in the past that did that. I got told it was ICK. There is some medicine out there for that, and it does work. I use QuICK Cure. It cured my betta in 3 days. If your fish is giving up, then I will say prepare for the worst. Also you could always replace the betta.
