Whats wrong with my gouriami2007-11-24 23:42:47

My swoardtail female and male were bought at the same petstore. The male died a few days after, for no apparent reason. Then, my female swoardtail died (she was looking odd after the male died). Her tail and all fins were torn and frayed looking and she had little black dots. And she was upside down on the gravle trying to swim. (i would have got swim bladder treatment, but i had no time to look up what it was, because she died quickly) So, naturally i added a little salt to my water, and did water changes. Now, my cute little gourami is swimming, but acting really weak and frail. He's not upside down, but he might soon. He is usually white, blue, and red. He's turning light black up by his face. My sister says he has little black dots too. CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE CURE FOR SWIMMBLADDER, OR IF YOU KNOW WHAT THE DISEASE IS?

can be cured with fungus eliminator it is a granule you will add over the next 5 days , but every other day add more salt , and use a product called stress coat usually used for dechlorination

That is NOT swim bladder disease.

Not sure what the black dots are specifically, but the ragged and torn fins are signs of Fin and Tail Rot, a bacterial infection that literraly eats the tail and fins.

Laying on their side or upside down on the gravel is usually a sign of bad water.

Have you checked your ph level? Have you checked the ammonia levels?

If you do not have tests, take about half a cup of water to you local pet store and ask them to test it for you, they almost always will do it for free (if not, find a new store, cause thats just lousy customer service)
