Whats wrong with my guppy
i bought him yesterday and today he lost a lot of his fin coloring and its all clear now and looks kinda disorientated, the other 3 guppies are doing fine.?
Answers:its probably stress. To reduce stress when you buy fish, there are a few things you can do.
keep them as warm as possible on the ride home if it is winter.
When you get home float the bag on top of the water in the tank you are going to put them in for about 20 min.
After 20 min are up open the bag and put a little of the water from you tank in it. And let it sit for another 5 min. You should do this about 3 times.
After you have slowly aclamated them to your tank water (above), you want to pour them into a net over a sink. This is so that none of the water in the bag gets into your tank. When fish stress out the release chemicals that can harm them, and the bag will be full of them so best to not add it to your tank water.
Purchase some water conditioner. After the fish is in the tank add suggested amount on bottle of conditioner to tank. This will keep the fish from stressing and will provide the fish with a slime coating that protects them.
It is also a good idea to have you tank set up for at least a week before you put fish in it. This will give it time to produce the natureal bacteria fish need to thrive.
WELL THATS JUST 2 BAD!! WHAT COLOR WAS HE?
He may be very stressed. Some fish lose their color when the get stressed, so just give him time. ;-)
