When do fish sleep When they are dead
They are dead when they are belly up and pale or they disappear in a tank full of fish.
sometimes when tired
when they a just laying still..you can see when you turn your aquarium light on how it seems to shock the fish,,,
they sleep at the same time as mafia types. hence "he's sleeping with the fishes."
Most all fish spend time in an energy-saving state that can be called
"rest", and we might even call their behavior "sleep", though it is probably different than "sleep" in most landanimals. Many fish, like Bass and perch, rest on or under logs at night. Coral reef fish active in the day, hide and rest in crevices and cracks in the reef to avoid being eaten at night. The resting behavior of fish is very different from their behavior the rest of the day. Many minnows, for example, which are very active in schools during the day, scatter and remain motionless in shallow water at night. shark, however, they HAVE to keep moving to push water through their mouths in order to breathe, and they may still sleep while moving, we just don't know yet.
When a fish is dead, they turn upside down and they turn a pale color. The don't swim around. Try testing this to see if your fish are dead:
1. Put some food.see if the fish moves.
2. Try picking the fish up. If it moves, its alive. If it doesn't then that means its dead. Thanks
They usually sleep at night, so if you where to make a room dark your fish would think its night and stay in one spot and go to sleep.
Fish sleep when the lights are out - with their eyes wide open. They may stay very still under rocks or vegetation in a lighted aquarium to get forty winks.so to speak.but of course their eyes don't have lids so they stay active for as long as there's light..then drop dead from over-exhaustion so don't leave those aquarium lamps on all night coz you'd drop dead 2 if you didn't get a wink of sleep for too long.
In a way they sleep with their eyes open dozing while still alert
i think when they are tired
Yes, fish sleep when it's dark, but not with their eyes closed. For fish, sleep is really more of a state of inactivity than sleep as we know it.
Fish usually sleeps when humans are asleep - during the night. So it's best to turn your aquarium lights off and let them have a good night's sleep. The reason you probably don't see them asleeping (like humans) is because they don't have eye lids, so their eyes remain open when they're asleep. A trait of fishies sleeping is that they usually remain on the bottom of the tank, and they don't move. Hope this helps =)
Most fish sleep when it is dark, although many are more active when it is dark. If you want to see them sleep, at night, turn off the lights including the one on the tank and wait 5 to 10 minutes, then turn the aquarium light on and see for yourself.
The surest way to tell if a fish is dead in a tank with other fish is the absence of eyes. A dead fish is one floating aimlessly with no eyes.
