The water has been in there for about a week. The bowl was clean and there was not soap in there.
Answers:Its called a bubble nest. They do it to for breeding. Its ok.
The fish needs fresh water. The oxygen in it is getting low. That is why there are bubbles at the top. Put some fresh water from the tap in a clean, preferrably glass bowl, let it stand a few hours to let the chlorine evaporate and then empty the old water out and put the fresh water in. If the fish is only in a bowl with no filter, you should change ithe water often.
my brother beta fish did the same thing I think they do it because they are bored of just floating around the fish bowl so they make bubbles to pass the time.
Did you ensure that you added chlorine remover or at least allowed the water to sit for a full day before the fish was placed in it?
Sometimes if the fish has been over fed this can happen as well.
Re clean the bowl, ensure all stones (if used) are washed well with hot water only.
Add water that has been treated for chlorine removal (preferrably) ensuring that the water has sat for min. 10 minutes before putting fish in.
Always have 2 bowls for the fish.one that is cleaned and ready to go with treated water and the other which is the bowl the fish is currently in.when the treated water is ready, change the fish over and then wash and prepare that dish for the next change later on.
