Tiger Barb (But I advise 4 or more as they can be aggressive to other fish if they don't have company from the same group. Single barbs may attack other fish in shoals they are fine as they chase one another just for fun)

Guppies (Sometimes extremely difficult to keep, but never if you have Tiger barbs as the barbs will eat the pretty fins of the guppies)
I have 11 years of experience with tropical freshwater fish.
Depending on the size of the tank other than 2 ft 6in long I would need to know how high and how wide from front to back.
Based on a 2ft x 1 ft x 1 ft tank you can have up to 29 fish in it but this golden rule should never be broken you need 6 inches of swimming space per inch of fish so if you have a fish that is 2 inches long you need 12 inches of swimming space. 29 fish of the size of a neon tetra is tha absolute maximum that this size tank will take. I have a 2ft x 15 inch x 12 inch tank with an under-gravel filter living plants with 30 fish in it. I also have aeration in the tank other than the bubbles from the under-gravel filter.
