Answers:

bettas are meat eaters in the wild (eating small bugs and worms), and flakes are made mostly of plant fibers. Plant fibers don't give them the nutrition they need and can actually constipate them, so flakes aren't the greatest thing to feed them. Also for that reason, peace lillies are not good for bettas, so DON'T do that.

Feed your betta pellets, and blood worms make a great treat (you can find them frozen or freeze dried--if you get frozen, which is best if you can find them--thaw them to room temp before feeding your betta), as can most other types of worms EXCEPT tube worms. Basically, it's best to alternate between pellets and worms (giving the worms every two or three feedings). If you can give your betta a little variety (I even give mine little fruit flies and mosquito larvae), he (or she) would really appreciate it.

Don't over feed your betta. They are piggies and will overeat. I give mine about three pellets or a couple of worms twice a day for six days, and fast him for one day. It's good to fast them for a day because their digestive systems are pretty delicate and fasting allows them to digest. Some people say to only feed them a few pellets or worms every two days, and that works well too.

flakes
try bloodworms. you can buy them at the pet store. they are just tiny dried worms but my betta loves them
Mine seems to prefer the pellets.
Yuo should feed them beta pellets flakes will sink to the bottom and get the tank dirty very fast and when i feed my beta pellets he was alot more active and lived longer
buy a small peace lilly to float on top of the water, they like to nibble on the roots. that and flakes work the best for my mom's beta fish
flake food cept mine alive for a long time
umm flakes will go better unless your pellets are as tiny as an ant.you suould try frozen worms though or you can get at the store dried worms for bettas.
Well I would say don't switch the food. They can't get used to what you are feeding them. When i first got my betta fish, I fed it flakes that made the water cloudy when not eaten. Then I got pellets and I have been watching them and it seems they don't eat them as well it is hard for them to digest and to chew and get in their mouth. I then used the trial tropical flakes I got and they seem to like them more. They are flakes that don't make the water flaky. So I would feed them flakes. It also may just depend on the type your fish like!!
Bettas are surface feeders so flakes are better then pellets which are usually designed to sink quickly. Try to feed a varied diet (not just one brand of flake). He would also appreciate some frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, etc. which your local pet store should have.
