White spot on my pleco

White spot on my pleco2007-11-24 23:43:04

I have a fairly large pleco (sorry if I'm spelling it wrong) he's about 6 inches long, to clean the tank that my baby oscar lives in (he's probably 3 inches long at this point). We've had the pleco for 3 weeks, and we noticed a white spot forming behind one of his eyes.it started off small and has gotten slightly bigger. I know my oscar picks on him a little bit, but thats why we got a big pleco.we thought he might leave him alone. Anyway, I don't know if this is some sort of bite from my oscar, or if he burned it on the heater (I don't think it gets hot enough though?) or scraped it on one of the rocks.or if its some sort of parasite? Both of the fish are from the same store and its a very reputable store in my area.any ideas would be helpful! Thank you!

G'day, you have the right to be concerned. It could be a number of things. From experience I have come across this in a number of my fish and it's curable don't worry.

1. As mentioned it could be ICK, there is a dissoluble tablet you can purchase at your local aquarium. You will need to figure out how much water your tank takes before adding the solution you can go to www.guppylog.com/special/conve. and work out the gallons here.

2. Try adding some Methylene Blue into the tank, this helps with the treatment of White Spot Disease and helps cure fungal infections. Again available from your local aquarium or pet supplier.
